Sleeping Baby...

We have learned that Elizabeth likes to sleep with her arms up by her head. She doesn't like her arms wrapped up when we swaddle her, if we do she fusses until she gets them out.

Elizabeth has started sleeping in her crib in her room this past week - we were hoping it would lead to us all getting more sleep at night, but so far she is still waking us up exactly every 3 hours to eat.

The bunny plays a lullaby, and whenever I start it she turns toward it and stares at it, so cute!

Madilynn singing ABC's to Elizabeth

Yesterday I put this little outfit on Elizabeth for the first time. It's the only outfit that we bought for her (wasn't one of Madilynn's).
I caught a smile/grin, Madilynn and I were talking to her. We have been getting more smiles lately, some still in her sleep, but some when she's wide awake and we're talking to her.

Our first outings

Besides the trips to the Doctor's office and some quick trips to the store, we have had a couple of fun outings so far... Michael is taking his last class this semester (and will graduate in December) it only lasts 4 weeks, but its on Friday and Saturdays. Anyway, Sundays have become our days together. Last Sunday we loaded up and Daddy took us to Ledges State Park. We drove through, and then we got out and walked around for a little while. It was a beautiful day, and so great to get out and enjoy the sunshine!

Then yesterday we ventured out to the new Bass Pro Shop in Iowa, it opened just 2 days before Elizabeth was born. Granny was here to help out for the weekend, so she went with us. Here we are... Madilynn is too entertained by all of the wildlife up on the walls, it was pretty cool I'd have to say, but I didn't get any pictures.
Here's Madilynn checking out the fish
And here she is trying on the finds...so silly!

Here's Elizabeth this morning, her first time in the bouncy chair. She enjoyed looking around at everything for a little while.

Elizabeth's 2 week check up

This morning we took Elizabeth to her 2 week Dr. appointment. All ready to go...

The big news...she now weighs 7lbs. 15oz. she's made it past her birthweight now!! We were so excited that she has finally begun gaining weight well. It has been a long couple of weeks with multiple (3) weight check appointments. Right now she is getting a combination of breastmilk and formula at just about every feeding (8 times/day). Without going into too much detail, hopefully within the next couple of weeks she'll be only on breastmilk. I've been working on increasing my milk supply and her gaining weight. This makes for a long feeding time - lots going on at least - nursing, bottle-feeding, and pumping. Thank goodness Daddy helps out in the middle of the night, so we aren't up too long at a time, but only getting 2hrs. of sleep in the middle is catching up with us. We try to get a nap during Madilynn's naptime to help with the loss of sleep.
We have noticed that Elizabeth is starting to be awake a little more during the day, maybe 2-3 hours total. She's more alert during those times and moves around more.
Well, that's all for now..gotta go sterilize bottles!

Sisters

Madilynn loves Elizabeth...it is so cute. She has wanted to be involved with everything. Elizabeth has slept a lot so far, but it is so cute Madilynn is quick to let us know when Elizabeth has her eyes open. They are rare times and we all like to see them open! When Elizabeth is awake Madilynn enjoys singing to her, the ABC's and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Elizabeth is so content and just watches Madilynn the whole time - like she knows it's Madilynn. I told Madilynn she knows your voice!

Look at that little grin
Last night Madilynn found Daddy's jeans in the floor and proceeded to put them on all by herself, then she walked into the kitchen where Daddy was working at the table and said, "I got jeans". So funny, we had to get a picture...

Our first days at home...

Well, Elizabeth is just over one week old and we are doing well. Trying to rest when we can. Elizabeth still does a lot of sleeping, I forgot how much they sleep in the beginning. After a weight check appointment on Saturday Elizabeth is now at 7lbs. 4oz. our next appt. is next Monday for the 2 week check up.
Here's Elizabeth after a feeding with milk dripping from her mouth!

I think she looks just like her Daddy when he was a baby...
Daddy time
First sponge bath at home...she didn't cry
All done and dressed!
Tuesday (day after we got home from the hospital) Daddy took Madilynn with him to run errands and go by his work. Madilynn told everyone there about her baby sister "Wisabeth", they had a great time together.

When Daddy gets home from work, he gets all the attention...
I thought I'd show off the back of that head...she has some hair, more than Madilynn did and it seems a little darker, but it does still have a red tint to it.
Madilynn has done just great with Elizabeth. Just this morning she came in and said, "I wuv you, Wisabeth" and gave her a kiss on the head. Then she wanted to hold her, so she did for a little while. Here she is giving Elizabeth kisses.

We came home from the hospital Monday around noon. I am just getting around to posting this, it's been busy!! Here we are Monday morning...

Madilynn was so cute... The nurse had to carry Elizabeth out of the hospital, and Madilynn had to help. She held on to that car seat the whole way!
Here we are on the elevator, it made a stop and a lady got on the elevator with us and Madilynn said, "I got a baby sister" and the lady asked her," and what is her name" and Madilynn said, "Wisabeth"(how she pronounces her name). She was so proud!

In the car all ready to go!
At home...yes our road is being totally re-done...perfect timimg, right?

Later that evening...all settled in
